ABSTRACT: The purpose of this paper is to give a brief review of recent advances in the analysis of file L\J;J%fz.  
foundation practiced in China. Emphasis is given to the analysis methods for composite piled raft with cushion #CTE-W"|HE  
and pile responses due to tunneling. In particular, an integral equation approach is discussed first to analyze the I3L<[-ZE  
problems of composite piled raft with cushion, followed by an introduction of a simple analytical two-stage 0*3R=7_},o  
method for evaluating the pile responses due to tunneling. Numerical examples have demonstrated the per- VPJElRSH
 
formance of the proposed analytical methods. Such analytical approaches are quite efficient for the engineering AofKw  
computation, and provide a useful tool for engineers due to its simplicity.

It probably is that Tongjin are leading in piling research in China, worth a read on this article to get a feeling that what is advancing in pling work in China, but never forget that the literatures written by Harry Poulos, Mark Randolph etc are still the basic and the basic, and should never be abandoned. cheers
