Design of geotechnical engineering problems that involve M!&_qj&N,
dynamic loading of soils and soil–structure interaction _A;vSp.`
systems requires the determination of two important nCffBc
parameters, the shear modulus and the damping Wk\mgGn+
of the soils. The recent developments in the numerical .y %pGi
analyses for the nonlinear dynamic responses of grounds @pqY9_:P1
due to strong earthquake motions have increased the XQ0#0<
demand for the dynamic soil properties corresponding J+3\2D?
to large strain level also. Further, the most common cause u5cVz_S
of ground failure during earthquakes is the liquefaction vB{;N
phenomenon which has produced severe damage all )tN?: l
over the world. This paper summarizes the methods of .-('C> @
determining the dynamic properties as well as potential qEK4I}Q-=
for liquefaction of soils. Parameters affecting the dynamic Giy3eva2
properties and liquefaction have been brought out. /`4v"f0V
