Design of geotechnical engineering problems that involve STKL
dynamic loading of soils and soil–structure interaction NvK9L.K
systems requires the determination of two important K<JzIuf&
parameters, the shear modulus and the damping uvys>]+
of the soils. The recent developments in the numerical 7ZcF0h
analyses for the nonlinear dynamic responses of grounds &@=Jm

due to strong earthquake motions have increased the 1 ZdB6U0
demand for the dynamic soil properties corresponding s t'T._
to large strain level also. Further, the most common cause WQ|:TLQ
of ground failure during earthquakes is the liquefaction ]a3$hAcj6"
phenomenon which has produced severe damage all J^!;$Hkd
over the world. This paper summarizes the methods of AFLtgoXn:
determining the dynamic properties as well as potential $8EEtr,!
for liquefaction of soils. Parameters affecting the dynamic ?K1B^M=8
properties and liquefaction have been brought out. @"w4R6l+*
A simple procedure of obtaining the dynamic properties {UiSa'TR1b
of layered ground has been highlighted. Results of a CH++3i2&

from the sites close to the Sabarmati river belt have been 6BE,L
presented.
