Design of geotechnical engineering problems that involve $.31<@T7
dynamic loading of soils and soil–structure interaction V;Q@'<w
systems requires the determination of two important y'n<oSB}
parameters, the shear modulus and the damping r%>EiHpCU
of the soils. The recent developments in the numerical 1bHQB$%z
analyses for the nonlinear dynamic responses of grounds MZqHL4<|
due to strong earthquake motions have increased the KFy|,@NI
demand for the dynamic soil properties corresponding ,XI=e=
to large strain level also. Further, the most common cause PZ#aq~>w
of ground failure during earthquakes is the liquefaction D_G]WW8
phenomenon which has produced severe damage all >U?#'e{qW
over the world. This paper summarizes the methods of gZ-:4G|J
determining the dynamic properties as well as potential Vy^mEsQC+h
for liquefaction of soils. Parameters affecting the dynamic d[*NDMO
properties and liquefaction have been brought out. [&l+V e(
A simple procedure of obtaining the dynamic properties xk3)#*

series of cyclic triaxial tests on liquefiable sands collected er2;1TW3E
from the sites close to the Sabarmati river belt have been K92M9=>
presented.
