Design of geotechnical engineering problems that involve QS<)*
dynamic loading of soils and soil–structure interaction -_f-j
systems requires the determination of two important GX N:=
parameters, the shear modulus and the damping {mA#'75a#
of the soils. The recent developments in the numerical $~r=I[5'(
analyses for the nonlinear dynamic responses of grounds M2M&L,/O
due to strong earthquake motions have increased the W1[C/dDc
demand for the dynamic soil properties corresponding /?S,u,R
to large strain level also. Further, the most common cause sX(rJLbD
of ground failure during earthquakes is the liquefaction jNAboSf2Y
phenomenon which has produced severe damage all *!,k`=.([#
over the world. This paper summarizes the methods of r:,"k:C
determining the dynamic properties as well as potential lht :%Ts$
for liquefaction of soils. Parameters affecting the dynamic FwDEYG
properties and liquefaction have been brought out. `91?^T;\F
A simple procedure of obtaining the dynamic properties WISeP\:^

presented.
