Design of geotechnical engineering problems that involve CWo1.pV w
dynamic loading of soils and soil–structure interaction rZPT89M6
systems requires the determination of two important eas:6Q)
parameters, the shear modulus and the damping tirIgZ
of the soils. The recent developments in the numerical C#;jYBtT7?
analyses for the nonlinear dynamic responses of grounds r\6"5cQ=
due to strong earthquake motions have increased the J<gJc*Q
demand for the dynamic soil properties corresponding 69y;`15
to large strain level also. Further, the most common cause qGmNz}4D5
of ground failure during earthquakes is the liquefaction :p&!RI(l
phenomenon which has produced severe damage all )}%O>%
over the world. This paper summarizes the methods of 2?C`4AR[2H
determining the dynamic properties as well as potential $*a'84-5G-
for liquefaction of soils. Parameters affecting the dynamic ,tH5e&=U01
properties and liquefaction have been brought out. nwt C:*}
A simple procedure of obtaining the dynamic properties G.'+-v=\]
of layered ground has been highlighted. Results of a %h"z0@+

presented.
