This is especially for the postgraduates from my personal experience during these rough days. The postgraduate, like others’ definition, is a little bit embarrassed. They often hesitate when certain position occurs, unlike the undergraduate’s passion, which may be fatal to job-hunting. Consequently, it will not only save some energy for you but kill some chances as well. The distinct difference between the postgraduate and the undergraduate is the research area the employers pay much attention to, who want that your area is much closer to the enterprises’ business. The research area is the only advantage for the postgraduates compared with the undergraduates who just learn some basic, general and essential courses. The approximate 3-year research is something like the undergraduate’s working experiences, which is the most valuable for the postgraduate in position’s competition. As to my major, geotechnical engineering, Hohai University focus on the soil’s constitutive law and principle and meanwhile Tongji University on the structure interacted with the soil. So, those corporations, whose business is mainly about the excavation engineering and pile engineering, favor the latter students. As a result, the postgraduate should think twice when choosing the thesis area, but sometimes the decision is not belonged to us. In the final analysis, we should select the suitable supervisor on second thought when entering the graduate career, ironically, sometimes which also not to us.

帖子应该对学岩土的择业和择研究方向有点帮助，怎么没人顶啊！

hehe, we have no rights to choose what we would research. our supervisor decide it.
what we can do is just to do it well.

but we can choose the supervisor, whose research area is favourable to our future work.
