Australian Research Council Centre of Excellence for Geotechnical Science and Engineering RHpjJZUV 10 Researcher aJtpaW@ 10 PhD Scholarships En#Q
p3 $+ N~Fa The newly established Australian Research Council Centre of Excellence for Geotechnical Science and Engineering (CGSE) is currently recruiting research staff. The CGSE will provide an international focus for geotechnical research, with particular emphasis on energy and transport infrastructure, and is founded on collaboration between the geotechnical groups at The University of Newcastle, The University of Western Australia, and the University of Wollongong (with additional support from several of Australia’s leading geotechnical consulting firms).
{o 5^nd The four major research themes of the Centre are geomaterials science, the modelling of multiphysics problems in geotechnics, the simulation of moving boundary problems, and the assessment of geotechnical risk using stochastic analysis. Tools for investigating these themes will include state-of-the-art numerical analysis, advanced physical modelling using beam and drum centrifuges, sophisticated laboratory testing, and full-scale field testing at Australia’s first national soft soil test facility (which will be established at Ballina, NSW). Engineering applications of interest include ground improvement techniques for soft and problematic soils, the analysis and design of deepwater oil and gas facilities, and the design of road and rail infrastructure.
